So, what kind of fools get up out of a nice, warm, comfy bed to head out into the dark, cold, rainy morning when they don’t have to? Just fools like us. We learned too late last fall about the Metrolina Expo Marketplace and weren’t able to make it to the one last spring, so we were bound and determined we were not going to miss it this time. Luckily, with the nasty weather, traffic was minimal. After arriving in the parking lot, we splashed our way through the puddles to get to the ticket booth. Yes, we had to pay to get in. Was it worth it? We’re not really sure. If it had been a pretty day and all the outdoor vendors had opened and we weren’t cold and wet – maybe – but $20 for the two of us to get in certainly put a dent in what we could spend.
We enjoyed talking with the vendors, who had plenty of time to chat because at that hour with the inclement weather, there weren’t too many of us roaming their booths. We did learn that most of the indoor vendors and some of the outdoor vendors are regulars there the first Saturday of the month, so we’ll probably put this place on the “let’s try this one again” list, we’ll just pick a pretty day if we do.
By far the best part of the day, was watching the Cork Dork herself in action wielding her glue gun in one hand as she searched through her vast supply of recycled corks for just the right one to finish out one of her cork boards. If you’re from around here, you know her as Molly Grantham, WBTV news anchor. Talking with her made dodging the raindrops while sloshing through the parking lot well worth it. So if you’re in need of a unique gift check out her website corkdorkgifts.com.
