Other than some early Black Friday sales this year, the holiday season seems to be especially slow arriving.  Ever so quietly it creeps closer and closer, particularly for those of you in New York.  All the snow that was dumped upon you this week has muffled the scratchy sound of those little turkey feet fleeing along the major highways trying to get out of town before it’s too late.  (Note to turkeys:  If you’re not already sunning yourself in the Keys sporting a new Hawaiian shirt, Rainbows and Ray-Bans, then, you’ll probably spend Thanksgiving Day at the center of a dining room table and not as the guest of honor toasting the chef.)

Thanksgiving Day is only a week away and we just can’t wait for that turkey dinner with all the trimmings including cornbread dressing, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. (Yes, you do detect a lack of veggies.)  All the comfort foods we can think of all rolled up into one ginormous meal with leftovers galore.  Yes, we’ll be eating those until, in desperation, someone calls Papa John’s – after all, there are only so many creative ways to disguise turkey leftovers and the last time I checked, there wasn’t a turkey pizza.

Once the food has been consumed, the dishes have been done, and the “I can’t believe I ate the whole things” have been uttered, some of you braver folks will head out to the Black Friday sales.  While you head to the mall with your lists in hand in search of the perfect gift, I’ll be sitting at home with my Nook in hand downloading the perfect book, a turkey sandwich on the table and a bowl filled with Turkey Hill Dairy All Natural Salted Caramel Ice Cream for dessert.  At least I’ll try to stop with just a bowlful – better yet, forget the bowl, just give me the carton and the spoon.
